WebObjective: Urethral stenosis is a disease in which the lumen of the urethra becomes constricted by fibrosis. Such stenoses have been treated by urethral dilation using a bougie and optical internal urethrotomy (OIU). Recently, high-pressure balloon dilation (BD) has been developed as a new treatment method for urethral stenosis. WebCompared with urethroplasty, optical urethrotomy is a cheaper, simpler, quicker, and less invasive therapeutical option for urethral strictures in women. However, its efficacy does not reach 100% and presents the risk of urinary incontinence by injuring the striated sphincter.
